The Training Event organized by the Civil Protection Department of the Epirus Region, with the assistance of the 5th Special Disaster Management Unit, the Hellenic Fire Service and the participation of the Volunteer Group “Club of Hellenic Special Forces of Preveza”, was held successfully on the 16th & 17th of October 2021, in Preveza, inside the former military camp of “Agios Andreas”.
The Training Event aimed at releasing and saving individuals after a strong earthquake. The Event was carried out under the activities of the “ERMIS” Project, co-funded by the Interreg V-A Greece-Italy 2014-2020 Programme. For the needs of Training Event, inside the area of the former military camp, a specially designed building collapse simulation field was constructed, under the supervision of the Commander of the 5th Special Disaster Management Unit Mr. Golias and its specialized executives.
During the Training Event, through the execution of a number of complex release scenarios and the application of relevant operational protocols & software tools of INSARAG (International Search and Rescue Advisory Group), on which the action was based, the participants got acquainted with the use of specialized equipment, supplied by the Region of Epirus as part of the Project.
The Training Event was completed on Sunday, the 17th of October, at noon, in the presence of the Regional Governor, the Member of Parliament for the Regional Unit of Preveza Mr. Giannakis, the Vice-Regional Governors, the Business Coordinator for Epirus – Western Macedonia and Islands Mr. Kontogiannis, the Commanders of the Services of the Security Forces of the Region of Epirus, and representatives of the Army and the Local Authorities
Watching the final phase of the Training Event, the attendees once again witnessed the mindset and the high level of operational ability of the 5th Special Disaster Management Unit, as well as the substantial assistance that can be provided, if required, by an organized disciplined and well-trained volunteer a group like the “Club of Hellenic Special Forces of Preveza”.
With the exemplary organization and execution of the educational scenarios, the participants particularly demonstrated the culture of cooperation, that characterizes the state and the self-governing mechanism of the Civil Protection Department of the Region of Epirus, which is a prerequisite for effective responding to large-scale events.
